    Ok Everyone,

Not sure that this is an open brain coral. I know the one on the right is and its doing really great.

The one on the left is new and sold as an open brain.

The difference between them is basically the bottom. The one on the left has a stony cone base approx. two inches thick, whereas the one on the right just has a skeletal base.

The one on the left constantly has feeder tentacles out whereas the other never does.

The known open brain inflates during the day and at night contracts. The other stays this way all the time.

Is this truly an open brain or is it something else.

Looks like a Trachyphyllia geoffroyi on the left and a Trachyphyllia radiata
    on the right.

    Wow Vinny, the Trachyphyllia God!

Jusr Shows to go ya! They look about the same to me. But when I relooked, I do see some sutle differences- even to the untrained eye like mine.

    ;-)

Okay thanks everyone. Just wanted to check. Never experienced a brain coral that had a stony cone shaped bottom before.

With the stony bottom should it still be placed on the sand or can it be moved up onto some rock.

+1 Yes I would leave it on the sand. The flesh on open brains is very delicate.;)
