Well I ordered the Nova extreme 4 bulb but I believe one of the ballests is bad. I moved the bulbs around and just the two sockets work no matter what bulbs are in them. I ordered it from drs foster and smith and they said they will contact Current-USA and have them send me a new ballest immediately. Any ideas on what else it could be? or do you think it is just the ballest? Thanks.

Sounds like a ballast problem to me.

*edit* thought you wrote that two of them lit dimly. sorry. It could be loose or broken wiring in the harness connected to the part of the circuit that run those bulbs.

I'm pretty good with electronics, should I try to fiddle with it a bit, or just wait till the new ballest arrives? Is this a common thing to come with a bad ballest?

sorry to be a stickler, but ballast does not have an "e" in it...

I'd check the wiring, it couldn't hurt... if you're replacing the ballast, you'll be doing that anyway. Just make sure it's unplugged... you don't want to catch the high voltage that the ballast puts out by accident!!!

Easy enough to get the reflector out and have a look. Just be careful not to bend it and change the shape. I'd check all the pin connections and make sure they are plugged in tight first and go from there.

Well I took it all apart, no luck... I guess I just have to wait till the new ballast arrives. :-/

sorry for being a spelling nazi ;) hope you get this worked out... I hear about a lot of bad ballasts with the 4 lamp nova fixtures, but rarely any other fixture... is this using two ballasts of the same type?

I had this happen with mine. Take one of the bulbs that lights up, and take all other bulbs out. Try it in every socket. If it lights up in every socket, that means that one of your bulbs is defective and needs to be replaced.

If it lights up in some sockets and not others, the ballast is bad and needs to be replaced.

I had this happen to mine and was befuddled by the situation until I did this. Turns out 2 of my lights were bad.
