i currently have a cheap 4 bulb odyssea fixture(no complaints about it) but at some point i wish to graduate to a better fixture for more bulb combos etc. will a 6 bulb nova extreme fixture be overkill, and will it work for my 55 reef and will it fit. also what do you all do with it during maintanance i love how my fixture simply flips up when i need to.

It wouldn't be overkill and would most likely produce a lot more light than the Odyssea.

Wouldn't that hang over the edges a bit? Not sure how much?

when i am to switch, how should i wean the tank to the slightly brighter lighting. should i run only half the bulbs for a few days...then all of them for a short time and gradually increase the time? i really dont want to see my coralline bleach etc...i know the corals themselves will be fine.

PRobably the most popular fixture out there since it priced so low comapred to other fixtures. I have a 4 bulb t5 over my tank with upgraded bulbs and thats enough for sps

Cut back to half the light schedule you are using now and increase an hour a week until you get back to the original schedule. You will have more than a slight increase. You have 50% more bulbs and are upgrading the reflector on top of that. I would guess you are adding about 75% more light.

It has legs, but I think you may be able to buy a hanging kit for it & remove the legs.
