I would like to start out by saying i am new to this forum and this will be my first saltwater tank. i see there there are a lot of people who favor the current usa fixtures on this forum, but i would like any input before i purchase a fixture. I have a 55 gallon tank that i would like to add some anemones, polyps, and mushrooms into but i want to make sure i have the proper lighting first(i would like to buy the proper fixture the first time around). i was looking at these two following fixtures with this combo of lights:

    -2 ATI Blue Plus
    -1 Korallen Zucht Fiji Purple
    -1 UVL Super Actinic

Current USA Fluorescent Nova Extreme Fixtures

    Catalina Aquarium

is there any pros/cons to these units? can you suggest anything else besides what i have mentioned?

    Thanks, Peter

I have the Nova. It's been great. I bought different bulbs from the start.

    Never heard of Catalina.

Same here. Never heard of the Catalina.

I did have a Nova. Liked it very much, but do agree, the bulbs suck.

Catalina is an off brand, and in this hobby most off brands/knock offs are a waste of money.

Not saying you need to drop big $$ on a Giesemann or Sfiligio fixture but not skimp either.

I would do a NEP over the Catalina.
