    These are not fire hazards.

The only thing bad about these nova extreme lights is that the bulbs are sub par ;)

Never heard of one catching fire. Most people who own them are happy with the fixtures. I picked up a damaged Extreme Pro about two years ago. Found it on Craig's list. It didn't fit under the guys canopy with the mounting legs so he pulled them off and just set it on top of his tank. Bad idea. He said he was doing some routine maintenance and accidentally bumped it and the one side dropped into his tank. Lucky for him it wasn't turned on at the time. The saltwater immediately went to work and destroyed everything except the housing, splash guard and mounting legs. He sold it to me for $50. Believe it or not even with everything covered in rust we plugged it in and 4 out of the 6 bulbs fired right up. I took it home gutted it then got some retro Icecap ballasts and reflectors snagged some computer fans from work and rebuilt the hole thing. The Icecap ballast dint fit so I had to mount them remotely. New UV bulbs and its better than new.
