I have also been dealing with rabbits lately. My pests prefer my hostas and impatients over anything. My wife requests that I don't shoot to kill so I have been using a live trap to deter the problem. I then "transplant" them to the woods (city rabbit= coyote dinner :) ) I would much rather eat them but if they don't make it in the trap they get many rounds with the red ryder!! Since I have been trapping them they have not eaten a single flower! Just a thought!!

Jwin would probably love to shoot the bunny rabbits - they're everywhere! I don't know how they squeeze through the back fence, but if the dog ever encounters one.......well, we've seen that happen before and it isn't pretty! Since my planters are now empty, I'll probably just leave them that way. It's too hot now to plant - that's my excuse anyway!

Our dog was a prime bunny/bird/animal snatcher in his prime. He's getting old though...the bunny was through the fence before the dog registered that it was there. ::)

Same with my old mutt. He would snatch any animal that came with in 10' of his house (length of his chain), and believe me there were a lot. Including an entire family of rabbits (one mom and 6 babies).

I believe it about your pellet gun having a kick too it. I have a winchester pellet rifle that is only 1,000 fps and it has a tiny kick to it. Sweet gun though. The stock is actually wood, every other pellet gun I have seen was plastic.

My American Brittany, Belle, is a great bunny hunter, despite her being an awesome pointing bird dog. the French Brittany, where the Americans got the breed stock from, and the Brittany name is a province in France, are used as dual purpose pointing bird dogs and rabbit hunters.

And she is fast enough to catch them as well. I have never seen any dog, even greyhounds move as fast as she can.
