Now it's my frogspawn, what happened?..-MYSTERY SOLVED!.

The last foew days, I noticed my once full thriving frogspawn loosing one head and part of another.

All params are on, and everyone else looks delightful

I've had it at least 9 months, and has alwas done well



Ideas?

 

The same happened to me on a volleyball size hammer I had. I had grown it for a year no issues, then overnight dead branches. I did not pinpoint the exact cause, but I narrowed it down to either a hitchhiker pest I missed on a newer coral, or a dosing error. I had dosed buffer into my sump and had not mixed it well enough. The return was just above my coral and may have dumped a high concentration right into the coral.

Anyway, never found the exact cause but I mitigates further damage by fragging the dead or dying branches off and relocated the healthy ones to a new location. After a few weeks and new growth seen, I moved it back. No issues since.

 

remember my yellow tip "survivor"? same story, but i changed my flow for two nights so i blame this.

did you change ANYTHING in your system? flow, carbon reactor, light intensity, anything?

 

I had literally the exact same problem this morning with a Hammer coral. I've had it for a little less than a year and over the last few days it's looked a little sad. Today - the polyps started to bail. I pulled it out, dipped it in some coral RX and found a few red flat worms in it - maybe 3 or 4. Not sure this was the cause, since I've had a minor red worm problem for a while.

The only thing that has changed in my tank recently is I switched Alk buffers. I have been dealing with slightly elevated Nitrates as well, but not a new issue. everything else looks pretty good - no other singes of stress.

I ended up cleaning the detached parts and was able to save a single section, but it does not look too good. Not sure it will make it, but we'll see.

 

Todd, your hammer looks like something is eating it.

As far as bailout, it's usually an alk issue.

It does look like something was eating it, I agree.

Nothing has changed, nothing new, it's been in the rock there about 6 months.

Kinda weird? The mystery in this hobby.

 

Have you seen any polyclad worms?

 

Same thing is happening to my big rock of Zoas.. Looks like a white fungus is taking over? All my other corals look fine though, frogspawn included. Never a dull moment I guess!

 

Keep an eye out for these. Found him eating one of my corals the other day. I pluck them out when I see them.

 

A bristle worm?? After all the posts claiming they are harmless. I have dozens upon dozens in my system due to over feeding but I've never seen them on my corals...

I'm having the same problem as you guys. A once healthy, volleyball size of frogspawn is now only A few heads that haven't fully inflated for a few months. Seems like they are super sensitive to flow change from my experience. I hope you can save your coral, it's so painful not knowing what to do to fix a problem and save an animal
