I'd finish your dream pair off, IMO, but are you talking about an angler fish??? JHad to look that up.

:( I was hoping she'd pull through. My angel took about 4 weeks to die from swim bladder so it is a slow and awful death. She did show slight improvement over time which is why I never put her down. I think the lympho finished her off. :(

Do what you really want. If you really want this pair, then get another female. If you're content with just the male, then go for the Johnsonis. They are one of my favorite wrasses and really hard to find! If you get some I'll be so jealous! :p

Cirrhilabrus johnsoni. Endemic to the Marshall Islands, Kwajalein Atoll (a rather small range). Another rarity which most never see.

Thanks Kacy. :) Making the right friends in the industry helps.

    Thank you.

It's not that the lunatus species is my ultimate dream fish, it's just on my dream list (which has ~8 different species on it). I am happy and feel lucky just to have the male. Females of this species are quite nice however, especially in the Cirrhilabrus world; I was looking forward to having both as they contrast nicely. Johnsoni's are also on the dream list. And they'd come at a slightly more affordable price...

Well, she took a turn for the worse yesterday and looked quite terrible. Was belly up doing spins 80-90% of the time continuously. I put her down last night. :(

Pretty sure I'm going to go with a male Johnsoni, possibly a pair; I'll have to wait and see what's obtainable once the shipment reaches HI.

Female fairys always seem to turn male on me anyways, so I'd rather play it safe and take the diversity approach here.

Thanks Andy. It's the ugly side of the hobby, but a part of it.

In effort to post something good here, this is what a harem of lunatus looks like in the wild. The terminal male is obvious here, and with a little luck, this is what mine will turn into:

That's a sub-male on the left, and a female behind the terminal male.

Here's a better one of the females (left to right: female, terminal male, female, female, sub-male):

In other eye-candy, this is about the most fantastic photo of a male Johnsoni I've ever seen:

Anyone note any resemblance of these two species? ;) Yes, they're close cousins. A North & South branch of evolution...

Sorry to hear about your loss. I do think the diversity route would be nice, especially if you can manage to get more of your "must haves" crossed off that list.
