    I am also plagued with these. Every time I add on to my existing system I go through this phase with this junk. It seems to be extremely bad for a few months and then slowly dissipates... Only in my addition tanks though, not my DT.
    I just manually remove it in the really bad stages and then let it run it's course until it consumes all nutrients that it feeds on. Overly Aggressive skimming helps to reduce the time.
    Lastly, there are some bio pellet sized silica absorbing beads. We used them on the PSU tank before . I don't know anything more about them but you may want to check them out.

    Thanks Trent. I think I'm going to let it run its course. After talking with many, it seems to be the consensus opinion.

    Have you had any luck yet? Is the algae starting to disappear or is it still going strong? Mine seems to be growing faster than ever!

    I manually removed 95+%. I also removed more than 66% of my egg crate. It's only been 10 days or so, but no signs of new growth. Only change made was removal of egg crate. I am blaming the silicates it leeches. I'll keep updating in the coming weeks.
