A store in Madison I think was doing the same thing. Aquarium Super Store. They were only open Mun-Thur, like 6-8pm. I went on Thursday and they weren't open. It was about 6:30pm..... Nano, is that what they're doing? I'll be back up there on Sunday night again, for tear down, so I'll check when I go again. I'm not paying a cover charge! But I can't blame em.....

with the way the econemy has been, i dont think we have seen anything yet, just in the past few years ive seen a major slump in the fish stores around the madison area, with 2 going out of business sowley due to increasing rent. i believe that cover charge will result in the store going out of business, but only time will tell. the owner charging people to even look should be enough hint that he is not doing well in the first place.

great way to lose business. If LFS's in my area did that i would never use them anymore. most of the time i buy from them is just to support the stores so the hobby stay alive and well in my area. if they charged for entrance it would dissuade alot of people from even going in, i mean people that are looking to join the hobby. I can buy fish for half the price online and with more choices. Not to mention the animals i get from the internet are healthier then the ones that arrive in lfs(probably do to middlemen). the only fish i buy from the LFS are the ones ive watched for a week or two.

nope, Shawn is actually one of the people that they decided to jack the rent sky high, and they went out of business, i talked to him and said that they where looking at a few places in Verona, but unsure as i have heard nothing yet and its been a while.

I think is just as bad as if we were to charge, or get charged for the valuable information on this site, for a pet shop having a cover charge is bad business, they are millions of people out there that won't get their feet wet in the salt water hobby, just because they think that they can't afford it

I have a good friend with a store and I can see why they would there are so many people who just come in after church with the kids and never have bought anything they just look and then there are the other ones who come in steal stuff and try to leave.

we are fortunate to have some nice stores I can think of 2 of them I would pay to go in as long as they took it off when you buy something.

stealing wrong, but thats beside the point whats wrong with just going in to look. sure 9 out of ten people wont buy, but theres that one person that went in browsing and saw something he wanted. Its not like the store would be closed if they didn't come in. this is just how owning a store works. besides how do you know you want to something if you don't know what they have. the only way it would work for me is if they kept a tab of how many dollars you gave them then took that whole amount off the price.

I would tell the guy your not seaworld, why should i pay just to come in and find out that the shipment wont be in for another day.

I have to agree with the people that said it would hold people off from the hobby. Heck years before I started my tank I would go to the lfs with Kogle just to browse while he bought stuff. I just looked and eventually thought that it would be a fun thing to go into. If I had to pay to look then I probably would have never gotten into it and they would have missed the couple g's I've dropped on the tank!
