Hey guys heres the situation, my tank is just now 6 weeks old and has finished cycling about 8 days ago. My water perams are all perfect but my tank is slowly succuming to algae (was diatom now turning green) im running my same old canister filter (220 magnum :-/) and am trying to figure out what i need to start sinking all my cash into first. Do i go for lighting? protien skimmer? fuge?( if fuge, it will have to be hob. No sump.)
upgrade filter? ( if filter, canister or wet/dry). Also what about a CUC, is it aout time or should i wait? If a CUC is ok to add what should it comprise of? Its all so confusing, so if somebody could help me with an order of when to add what it will help alot. ;D and remember i am just a noob, so if this is common sense im sorry.

    current tank specs are :
55 gallon SW, 55 lbs of LR , 20 lbs LS
1 yellow tail blue damsel, 1 Humbug damsel, 1 six line wrasse

3 maxi jet 1200s w/ natural wave maker
    1 48" shop light w/ 1 coralife 50/50 and 1 coralife actinic
    1 ebo-jager 250 watt heater

    PH - 8.3
    temp - 78-79
    ammo - 0
    nitrite - 0
    nitrate - 0

i agree skimmer first, this way you can get fish.

a clean up crew is important but not as important as good filtration.

no thats nonsense, you can start skimming right away, i have yet to see actual valid reason that ever accompanies that recommendation.
