Hi guys. I'm getting a all-in-one tank and was wondering if I could use Bioplastics in a media bag in the back filtration area? Has anyone used the bioplastics in a media bag before? So far my plan for the filtration is to have the sponge, ceramic rings, Chemipure elite, and NPX bioplastics(in that order from top to bottom). Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks.

I only have limited experience with pellets Anldyxp
but from my research I find that they are best tumbled and hence in a reactor

the reason being is that they will get covered with bacteria and this bacteria needs to be sloughed off , end up in the water column and then either end up as coral food or removed by a skimmer etc

in addition if your not running a skimmer on that tank, carbon dosing in any form, including pellets is not ideal according to many seasoned carbon dosers ( I have never carbon dosed without a skimmer and thus cannot offer any contrary advise to that)

if your aims are water purification, then a chemical media designed to be used in mesh pouches etc may be a better option

in that case I would suggest Seachems Purigen, as a nice addition to the chemical filtration media you are considering using

Thanks Steve. I would just like a longer lasting alternative to phosphates. Phosban is great but you have to replace it very often as opposed to bioplastics. What is this about carbon dosing without a skimmer? I have a skimmer on my current setup but will not have one on my all-in-one set up. Is it detrimental to run lets say Chemipure elite w/o a skimmer?

Carbon as in bioplastics is not the same as carbon as in chemi pure.

Vodka, sugar, vinegar and bioplastics are the types of "carbon" he's speaking of

Chemipure is an example of granular activated carbon, a totally different thing.
