If you lived near the coast like me, would you attempt to get it for your tank?

    Oh yeah!!

We can get it here locally at any LFS for about $0.50 a gallon.

I've been using for over 2 years now.

I'd do it, filter it thru some micron bags down to 1 micron, you'll be fine w/ incoming tide. I use nsw commercially and know MANY other wholesalers doing the same.

    szhttm - wheres here?

im not sure yes because you cant get any closer to what you should have for water no because the amout of pollution being dumped into the oceans id really have to think about that one

I hear ya. They say to go out during the last few hours of high tide to get the fresh stuff. Also someone suggested I check government sites for areas in the Bay Area that are known to be contaminated and avoid those..

I live near the coast and i use NSW every so often, unfiltered. I put about 10% in my tank, I figure the plankton and other micro life is a sweet treat for my corals. And there is NO synthetic sea mix you can buy that comes close to having all trace elements in seawater in ratios we have yet to even understand. Instant ocean has been making salt mix for what maybe 50 years at best. Mother nature close to 3 billion years in the making. Talk about a reputation for a quality product. 50 years in the business as opposed to over 3 billion. who would you buy from?
