Thanks for allowing me to join yourforum. This weekend I am setting my new 72 gallon bow from Oceanic. Am upgrading from a 28 bow. I chose a cascade canister 1200 for my filter of choice. Some say only sumps work. I have a cascade on my 29 and have been pretty successful. I filled tank with tap water treated with chlorine and chloramine removers. Tomorrow I will add the salt. Next day the live sand and regular dry sand. 40 lbs of each.;D I'm not sure about the water because of ro. That's how I found you web site.

Welcome. I actually have a 46 gal FOWR working just fine for 1yr on only a canister filter. I took everything out of it and put in carbon and live rock.

I not quite sure what I'm going to put in my tank A reef sound great, or maybe an almost reef. Right now the tank is cycling,(I think) Ammonia is not moving but nitrites are. 3.0 ppm mg/l. ph 7.8. and phosphates are rising. I have 40lbs of live sand. 40lbs of regular sand. 60 lbs of live rock mosy of it fully cured and about 20lb almost fully cured, and 5 damsels.

Canisters work quite well as I have been using them for years on reef tanks using all the standard filtration elements in my Ehien. Some of the more skilled LFS people in my area told me to change the carbon regularly but let the filtration run fairly "dirty" . After about 6 months I gave it a break down and it had a complete bio system living in my filter- cool. Anyway the one of most important things I do in a reef is monitor salinity - and I consider a prtien skimmer a must- enjoy your new tank amadent
