It's been ages since I've added anything to my tank so this guy has been in there for several months at least. It's about 1 1/2" long, and jet black except for white spots on the top of its antenna.

Also, it has a bit of a ruffled tail.

When disturbed, it flattens and widens its body.

The pic is taken from above in a plastic cup.

    Any help would be appreciated.

It is a key hole limpet. For the most part harmless.

Sounds like it could be a nudibranch. Hard to tell from your picture.

Error. Not limpet I thought white spot at top in another region. :-/

If you have not added anything in a long time and see no coral damage than I would have to go with sea cucumber type and or sea hare.

    Very cool though

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, that's the best pic I could get of it. The closest pic I could find on-line that matched was of Dendrodoris fumata.

Supposedly, they feed on sponges only. Does anyone know if they eat anything else? If's it's only sponges, I'll return it to the tank.

Most are specialized feeders. If it has made it this long and you are seeing no problems with your corals then it would be safe to add back to the tank.

You tracked it down yourself, it's either Dendrodoris fumata or D. nigra. You're probably in a better position than I am to examine the gill structure and the mantle for small papillae. Both are fairly common, and won't eat anything objectionable in your tank.
