Hi everyone, turned on my lights today and saw this black nudibranch with red outline crawling on a piece of LR, just wondering if this would be a problem in the tank. Thanks.

It seems to be Dendrodoris fumata which is common in the Indo-Pacific. There's a very similiar one called Dendrodoris nigra. Both have quite variable color but the red marginal ring in fumata seems to be always on the outer edge while in nigra the outer marginal edge is black then a narrow red band. The only observations we have on dorids show that they are sponge eaters & often the diet is restricted to one or a few species of sponge.

Nudis are thought to have limited life span of no more than a year or two when food is abundant & conditions are right. Without the right sponges it will soon die from starvation.

What she said ^^^^ They are pretty good hiders, and are probably the most common dorid hitchhikers.

    Cheers,
