I recently bought some live rock for my tank while waiting on my base rock to get here and I noticed some hitchhikers in the bucket. I dont want anything from the other tank. Will just using vinegar work or should I used bleach.

John Maloney of Reefcleaners.org recommends microwaving the rocks to nuke them!!!

I would say microwave follow by freshwater rinse would do the trick - and without using acids or bleaches.

Do you about how long to micro them, I bought my base rock from jon. He is an amazing customer service example on how to conduct a business.

Well if you got the Florida Reef rock - you really only need to wash it at best - there is really no growth on it from my experience and from what I have heard other people say. Old base rock my have a lot of undesireables on it tho.

I am not quite sure how long to nuke it - you can search on this forum or even PM John - he might take a day or two to get back to you as he spends a lot of time on the water. But he will get back to you . . .

I just bleached a bunch of rock and just popped it back in the tank. I needed to kill aiptasia and some nasty gha algae. Bleaching always works very well for me, never had an issue yet.
