    Thanks buddy!

so it seems like there is a common consensous on red colored acans needing or liking lower light. But with my size tank(biocube29g), with an 18 inch height and 6 T5 bulb unit running 4 actinic and 2 12k white, the bottom of my tank would be like the mid range of most of yours correct?

so is that too much light?

I have a 6 bulb TEK and can only run 4 new bulbs 36" from the substrate. Two Blue+, one Fiji Purple and one Aquablue Special. No SPS. From what I've heard they do well in around 130 PAR, if you have access to a meter. Many shops that I have been to don't put their acans directly under T5's, rather just at the outer edge of the fixture. They don't necessarily have time to acclimate them to higher light. It's one reason, IMO, why some people cook them when they get a new one home.

I get very good growth with my light at the height it is, feeding Reef Chili, mysis and Nutramar Ova.

I have four Boostled par30 bulbs. My center two are 3 blue 2 white and the outer two bulbs are 4 blue 1 white. I went with this combination because I knew I'd be keeping both SPS and LPS and wanted to keep both happy. My canopy is about 5 inches from the water surface. I have acrylic lids so I don't loose so much water during the winter months when ambient air in the tank room drops to 58F!! Not my choice because I rent. Unfortunately precipitation sometimes blocks some of the shimmer in the lamps. I have two heaters to keep the temp stable. My acans and most LPS are on both outer portions of the tank where the white in the lamps can't hurt them. The rainbows are approx. 22 inches away from the lamps and the purple/greens are 16 inches away. Big difference!

My LFS sells rainbows not nearly as nice as mine for $50 a polyp!! Unbelievable!! I wanna say something but I'm sure they'd just make up some trashy excuse.

Where you getting that Acan plus from BTW? The place in Edmonton?
