    Can lighting itself make nutrients in the tank?

    Unless your lights are so strong they're bleaching things literally to death, no.

    I remember another thread posted by someone that had switched to LED lighting and had noticed a rise in nitrates.I know that the lighting itself cannot produce nutrients in the water column but a lighting upgrade could definitely cause algae to die off possibly releasing nutrients into the system.
