You mixed kalk in with the salt mix?

You have to mix the kalk in RO only and let it settle for at least 24 hours.

You can not mix kalk and expect to do a water change with it, it's far too concentrated.

The kalk is for top off or dosing only.

No, I wouldn't mix it with the salt mix. I used the lime water to make a small batch of salt water, not for wc, just to test it. Guess I was curious to see What the results would be because I used water in the past with that had lots of lime in it. The kalk I used has been mixed for days. But I'm not even using it for top offs yet. I'd like my tank to get to where it should be first.

Your batch of RC is nearly perfect except for the mag. I would adjust the mag, 1250-1300 is good.

I agree, but why is my tank so off? I'm not panicking yet, but the corals look bad...well the SPS do more than the softies and LPS. And coraline algae has stopped growing. My glass is spotless :/

Are you doing routine water changes?

I would bring the Mag up then see where the alk is and bring it up appropriately? Since your Ca is 500 I would not use Kalk. Get some Kent Marine Mag and a buffer.

Or you can try another salt like IO and adjust it all accordingly just before you do a water change, once you get the alk and the mag up in the display.

What lighting type do you have? Coralline does not always flourish under intense lighting.

I add 20 ml of buffer every morning. I am adding Mag too. I have 2 kessil a150w ocean blues that are growing coraline. Yes, wc ever Saturday morn.

I guess my other question to you is, how long do I wait between adding buffer then mag

Your alk and Ca want to be opposite each other, one high and one low. Especially if mag is low. Mag in range makes it easier to balance the other two. Until your mag is in range, it will be difficult to raise the alk.

It got out of whack because your salt mix is low in mag.If your salt mix is reading low in mag, you must adjust the water before doing a water change. Ideally you would want to check Ca alk and mag every time you do a wc, but most people don't do that.
