I just had an idea, right now I have an ozone generator hooked up to my skimmer. What would happen if I hooked up pure oxygen to the skimmer instead of the ozone? Has anyone done this?

i doubt it will service as a sterilizing agent but we have done that in the abalone profession in S.A. and it increased saturation levels!!!!! definatley had more skimate!!

Thanks I think I might hook it up for a day and see what happens. I'll take pictures and compare the cup production from each.

make sure you allow 24 hours to elapse before comparing as the oils from your hands may effect the skimming for a few hours after youve fiddled with it!!

Ok I've had it hooked up for around four hours and the skimmer cup is all of the way full! I had it running all day and there was next to nothing in it now full. It was a little tricky dialing in the o2, it's right around three quarters of a liter per minute. At this rate the 22 cubic foot cylinder will be empty in about six more hours.

I replaced the room air with the oxygen, after my last post I had to empty the skimmer cup again. So after ten hours it produced two cups of the stinkiest green sludge I have ever seen. So it seems to work pretty good. It's not at all practical due to the expense of purchasing oxygen tanks but I might consider doing this every few months just to see if I can produce the same results.

It's really amazing, I had just finished adding red slime remover a few days earlier and the skimmer was really pumping out the gunk. But it was nothing compared to what happened when I added the oxygen.
