Has anyone here kept ocean surgeonfish (Acanthurus bahianus)?
They are native to my area and i am wondering how well they do in captivity?
I have a small one in my 80 gallon and a medium-sized one in a quarantine tank that i dosed with herbtana and pimafix. The small one immediatly settled in and is even pecking at the algae.

they get to be over a foot big. You will want a tank about 3 times the size of yours to keep one long term.

Yes, I've seen many in the wild and they do get quite large, although not as big as Acanthurus coeruleus. I plan on letting these guys go when they outgrow my tank anyway.

Letting them go will probably be having to find them a new home not in the wild, as for releasing them back into the wild could cause unknown diseases to the wild that we have in our tanks, into the wild and hurt the wilds population of fish.

please do not let the fish go back into the ocean. This is a VERY bad thing and can cause numerous problems as our tanks have all sort of different bacteria and organisms that are not normally in the ocean. Take for example calupra. Plus I think it is illegal!

I actually believe you are wrong with the species of surgeonfish.. I believe it is Acanthurus chirurgus.
