How much do you have the air valve screwed in? Im still waiting to produce skimate, and i have no idea what to look for in the clear tube just to the left of the skimmer.

Ive upgraded to the aqua c remora for my 29 gallon but im going to set up my 14 gallon and was going to put this skimmer on it and just need to know how to dial the air valve in correctly.

its going to depend on where you have the collection on cup. i like more bubbles for a dryer skim. plus if its a new unit then it will take some time for the skimmer to break in.

I have used a seaclone skimmer when I worked at ***co. It never produced any skimmate--I adjusted the sump water level, bubbles etc. These skimmers have a bad rep. I would look into a different brand.

Well i was either going to go no skimmer on the 14g or put this one on, which i think i might as well do, its not like i lose anything by putting it on. I just wanted to know how you tune the thing to get it working correctly.

is it in sump or hanging on the back?? if it is hanging on the back then what you wanna do is open the air valve all the way till you see an air bubble in the J-tube that hooks over the lip of the tank....then VERY slowly close the air valve just enough until the air bubble in the J-tube gets sucked in...you will hear a slight gurgle when it happens... leave it set like that and recheck it every day to make sure it is still producing the same ammount of bubbles as when you set it like this initially...

These skimmers arent very good but i found that to be the best setting to produce any skimmate out of them...

it may take a very long time ,several months, to get good skimmate with a subpar skimmer, because the tank just has to get that much dirtier for the skimmer to work.
