""The most obvious difference between Amphiprion percula and A. ocellaris is that A. percula usually have thicker black margins on the white bands. Also, as romunov has already mentioned, there is a difference in the number of dorsal spines and pectoral rays. Percula clownfish usually have 9 or 10 dorsal spines, Ocellaris clownfish usually have 11.""

I found this on the web... not sure if it helps.. by reading the i would say percula

The difference between Occellaris and Percula is Occellaris is eastern pacific, Percula is western pacific. ALL of the other things over lap. The coloration differences depend on how much inbreeding there is.

How to tell the difference? Ocellaris has nine letters. Percula has seven.

 I'm with geeky on this one. Descriptions contradict each other all over the net so I'm never sure.

I always thought the main difference was the size of the black bars that border the 3 white bars. A. Percula having thick black bars in comparison to A. Ocellaris. This leads me to believe that yours is not A. Percula.

Am inclined to go with geek...looking at different web sites on the two...am nothing but more confused....[IMG]

    Fish Index - Amphiprion percula

"...This clownfish is often confused with A. ocellaris, the false clownfish. Percula clowns have broader black borders on the stripes and fins, eleven rather than ten dorsal spines, and a shorter anterior dorsal fin..."

    Fish Index - Amphiprion ocellaris

"...This clownfish is often confused with A. percula, the true clownfish. Ocellaris clowns have narrower black borders on the stripes and fins, ten rather than eleven dorsal spines, and a taller anterior dorsal fin..."

Count dorsal fin spines...don't think they would still long enough for that...:p

But does seem to have broader black borders on stripes and fins - :p
