I have a pair of darwin-esque black clowns right now. I've been thinking about trading them in for a pair of pink skunks at my LFS. I like the clowns but they don't really do much except hang out in one corner unless it's feeding time.

Are the pink skunks more active?

From my experiences the skunks at the fish store rarely move around but once added to a tank larger then 10g they are as active as any clown.

I've never liked skunks, I don't know why - I guess it's probably because the colors are not as vibrant as others.......

I could be wrong but I think I read somewhere that skunks are the clowns that are most likely to choose your nem as a host if you have one.

The anemones choose what fish to host, not the other way around.

That depends on the tank, tankmates, age, etc
Skunks are pretty similar to occies and percs IMO/IME it's species of the Tomato, Clarkii, Maroon, and sometimes the Saddleback groups that will usually be aggressive. But any species can be, they are relatives of damsels.

maybe, but I;ve read TONS more threads on problem skunks than occ's and occ's have to be 1000 times more popular, so I'd play the odds and stick with occ's.

OP they'll come out more eventually, I dang near have to bat mine back in the tank at feeding time.

This is for a 40 gallon tank. They're very comfortable in there and have grown quickly but are just not very interesting fish in that they hang out in one area unless they know I have a bag of food in my hands.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
This is a common behavior with all clowns. Skunks might just decide the corner or the back of the tank is a good place to hang out as well.

Clowns in the wild reside in anemone they do not venture far from that anemone, they are not free swimmers like Anthias, Wrasse........

Personally I like both Skunks and B/W.

My B/W hung out in the back for almost a year after I got them and then readily moved about the tank.
