I'm not a fan of tall hex tanks.

    - Too tough to aquascape
    - Less swim room for fish

I'm not the biggest fan on the tall shaped tanks like that as well. The shape just doesnt fit in with my stuff.

Yeah, I have been running it through my head on how to scape it. I think there is basically only one way. I guess I'll pass. There are soooo many kinds of tank out there. I have been on the craigslist search for past week or two looking for a cheap tank. Being a poor college kid, I'm trying to get the biggest tank I possibly can without going broke just buying lights. Any suggestions on a good tank size? I am thinking the 55 or 40 breeder.

I had a hex reef. It was 31" tall and I did not have a sump. So hang on everything. And had to build a canopy to put halide in. But can be done. I hand picked my rock design for the tank. RR so much better. And my he was 22" wide so not much swimming space. But the tank fit nice in corner

It would be great for a coral only tank. Maybe a seahorse tank as well.

I saw the main guy from "LA Fish Guys" had a few videos about setting up a garden eel tank. It was an AIO tank (skimmer/small fuge one corner). It had a DSB for the eels, some tall grasses/macros for a few seahorses.

The tank was not a regular hex - it fit well in a corner. It may have actually been a pentagon.

Just giving you some possible ideas. You wouldn't need special lighting either.

If you want a reef tank though, stick with a standard shape tank or maybe a flat back hex.
