I think your problem is your trying to use your skimmer with freshwater. Try with saltwater and let us know how it works? My skimmer is the same way with freshwater it wont produce hardly any bubbles but when I have saltwater flowing through my skimmer it works perfictly. I dont believe that their is anything wrong with it except that your trying to use it with freshwater.

Powerman is correct when he said saltwater bubbles better.

Yea, I filled it with salt water this weekend, and it works like a champ. Sorry for all the confusion. Thanks for the tips!

i have had mine working since july and it never seems to pull much out. how can you tell if the pump is spinning the right way? the walls inside the cup get a brown film on it but i rarely get foam accumulating to the top. after a week i might have a qtr inch in the cup. my tank has been up since aug 08, i have 8 fish and sps. i also keep the water at 7 inches in the sump. any suggestions would be great

It is just a matter of plugging it in and out and seeing a change. If it's new it's sort of hard to tell since you don't have a base line, but soon enough you get it. Backwards isn't horrible, still operating around 80%.

When you know it's right, if you turn it off to clean the cup say, then you turn it back on... it is quite noticable. The foam head will simply not rise to where it was before. Mine starts right 80% of the time. Takes a few tries
just to get a backwards start so I can see a difference and know it's right. But I'm a little OCD so I have to check;D

Now if it is right and you can't get enough up the neck, then you need to close the valve or wedge pipe to get the water level up a bit.
