That's the truth! Before I added it, my water level was just topping the return outlet (sucking in bubbles) and after I added it, water level is a good inch or more higher.

But I also get bubbles if my silencer isn't in the T... so I had to do both solutions.

well the bubbles stopped a bit.. still a lot though, and i don't seem to be skimming at all the foam level barely went up and isn't even close to the collection cup yet. Should i still be waiting for it to kick in?

The plastic molding process used to make these skimmers leaves trace amounts of solvents in the plastic , even after washing the skimmer completely it will continue to expel solvents from within the surface of the plastic for about a week on average. Freshly made skimmers have more solvent than one that has been sitting in a box somewhere for a while and breakin time will be different ... The saltwater speeds up this process once a skimmer is placed in the tank. My Tunze skimmer made no foam for 6 days and by day 8 it was a skimming monster .... this info comes from Roger at Tunze, so Im pretty sure its valid ...

I've also got the same unit but wanted to know what the purpose of LR pieces in the return chamber is for ?

    Reduce bubbles ?

I've put my heater in there and its working wonders.

k.. another question, going to do a water change today. Would i need to turn of the skimmer, or could i get by with changing the water only to a little above the intake tube. ( I move the skimmers overflow box down so its still taking in water) I don't want to have to start the siphon again which is what i would have to do if i turned it off right?

If you are not lowering your water level below the intake, you should be fine. My siphon does NOT break when I turn it off (unplug it). But it does sometimes overflow slightly when I plug it back in (just a few drops of water).

Somewhere to store my rubble so my display stays pretty. Really, that's the only reason. Plus this LR (which is a natural filter) gets high flow in this way and that can't be bad ;D

Water conditioners increase the surface tension of the water. So the bubbles don't break apart and stay formed longer. not sure about over flowing but it can cause micro bubbles.
