Looking to get some feed back on the skimmers. Wondering if they fluctuate like crazy or if they stay as you set it up. I do have a sump with a ato system that helps it stay steady. Reason is I'm getting tired of my coralife skimmer fluctuate and having to adjust all the time. Looking to get a bh100 in sump style. Thanks

Just about all good needle wheel skimmers are pretty much set and forget. Octopus is a good brand, but it is not a function of brand, it's a function of design.

Yes, they are fairly set and forget. They can sometimes be a bit touchy at first and require small changes and then wait a bit and repetitive. Once you get them dialed in though, they don't require much changing at all. I'm a fiddler by nature, but still haven't adjusted mine in weeks.

I have a bh100 and dont have any complaints. The gate valve really helps for small adjustments, and it's fairly quiet.

How long have you had it? Also any floods with the skimmer over flowing?

Yes, my skimmer has overflowed, but this is usually due to my ignorance while doing maintenance on the tank...

My skimmer is in-sump though, so overflows are not a huge deal, except for dumping a day's worth of skimmate back into the sump (I usually empty it before doing anything else on the tank though, for said reason).

i have a HOB reef octopus and I love them. Never had any problems in the 2-3 years I've been using them.

I'm using the Reef Octopus BH-1000 on my 40. I was using a Coralife 65 before upgrading to the Reef Octopus. IMO the BH-1000 is a much better design than the Coralife. I haven't had to adjust the BH-1000 since setting it up a about a week ago.

The pic shows how much skimmate was produced in the first 6 days.

Another recent convert to Reef Octopus

used HOB Deltecs , 2 of them for approx 8 years reef keeping in 2 different locations

I also have the BH1000 and it compares very favourably with the MCE600 I replaced it with (age concern)
