I am looking into an Octopus skimmer for my 300 FOWLR aquarium. The price is hard to beat. What is the real diff between the Recirc skimmer and the Needel wheel skimmers? I see the recirc models run more then one pump. I have looked on the net and cant find alot of info on recirc skimmers?

The Octopus recirculating skimmers and the non recirculating skimmers both use a needle wheel impeller on the pump.

The main difference between a skimmer that is recirculating and one that is not is that recircs have a dedicated pump that recirculates water in the skimmer and mixes it with air. They also require another feed pump to introduce new water into the skimmer. The main advantage is you have control over the flow through rate by increasing the flow through rate or decreasing it (bigger or smaller feed pump)

Marine Depot has an advertisement for Euro Reef skimmers that states
"Recirculating skimmers can handle larger bio-loads depending on the flow through rates. Slower flow through rates offer longer dwell times and higher "per pass" extraction levels. Ratings for these skimmers are offered as a "Base +" rather than one "Ideal" aquarium size."

I just got the octopus recirc 110 and will write a review after I get it working as I am still building the system it will run on. But the price is right and the unit seems solid out of the box.
