First off pics will be comming so others may use my ideas :).....so we had an octopus awhile back. He lived in a 29 biocube with afew mesh mods and an extended wall in thee back.this worked out ok in combination with 10 gallon weekly water changes.we have beenn on the hunt for another octopus but last yr was kind of scarce. I just haappend to need some frozen food so I visited my lfs and I see a critter tote I ask what's in it....an octopus!! So I buy it and have them hold it for me.I decided to add a 20gallonn sump to the tank to house some crabs(octopus food) and a skimmer.I've contacted the manufacturer about being able to drill the tank annd its temperd so its not possible.oly optionn is an overflow. How do I plan to make an overflow octpus proof you ask?by plumbing it in behind the rearwall.

I score an eshops overflow from a local reefer for$ 20. Its big and will need modification to fit in the back middle chamber of the cube. Yesterday I got the stand trimmed to fit the 20xt and I cut the box down to fit in center chamber. Today ill be gluing the box back together and getting the plumbing all trimmed up hopefully all ill have to do tmo is drill afew holes in the rear wall and hook everything up,slap some mesh over the holes and we should be octoready by mon.im planning to run an emercency overflow aswell just incase.it will be just a homemade pvc utube withh a pump to start a siphone if the primary overflow should fail.

curious, I had always wanted an octopus but not had the means to get one, but from all i read and was told they need like a 100 gallon size tank plus.

Why not drill the last chamber with a bulkhead fitting and durso.

yeah that true for adultish size...i had mine in a 55 gallon and it was just him in there...he did use the majority of the tank swimming, but yeah when theyre older and larger they need a good sized tank... my friend has mine in a 150 gal tank

he is a dwarf octopus he wont get very big so the 29 biocube is ok,not ideal but itll do.

i drilled the tank no problem at all its up and running again picking up the octopus in alittle while. just have to figure out a way to speed up the durso

the majority of octopuses available in the trade actually dont get very large and about 75 percent can be kept in less than a 55 gallon. i used to have a common octopus in a 75 and it did great but escaped eventually and it got worse from there... lol..... they are not very rewarding in a sense that they only live about a year. so have plans to buy another right after buying this one.
