Octopus!!

    Hey do any of you know anything about keeping an octopus? I know that they need to be kept alone but any info would be great!

    Tank size
    Active breed
    Ect.

    I've done a lot of research as I had hoped one day of keeping an octopus, myself. Here are a few of the main highlights that changed my mind...

    Tank size would be determined by the exact species.

    Almost all species are nocturnal; most of their activity will be with lights out.

    All species are excellent escape artists and can squeeze through spaces much smaller than their body; a locking lid and permanently affixed screens on overflow drains are necessary.

    Rockwork must be secured to prevent tumbling as they search for prey.

    They're very messy eaters and will require heavy filtration and rigorous maintenance regimen.

    Extreme care must be taken when cleaning their tank as all species can inflict a nasty bite. Some, BTW, are also poisonous.

    Should the octopus ink his tank, one must be prepared to perform large water changes very rapidly.

    And best case scenario they only live about 8 moths in an aquarium.

    Their a very smart highly evolved cephalopod, not a fish. Shouldn't be in a fish tank I say. Just my 2c.
