Pointless, the best place for biological filtration is in the tank with your live rock.

+1 2in10,rubble in a hob filter i have found IME to be a great place for detritus and crud to collect and build up causing your new biological filter to become a nitrate factory instead.

+1...I would even go so far as to say the bio-wheel filters are unnecessary in their stock configuration. The wheels don't do what you want as far as breaking down nitrogen waste in a SW setup as they will only grow aerobic bacteria...furthermore the carbon cartridges used in most of those is poor quality carbon...if I was to use a HOB filter like that I would remove the wheels and just run some filter pad to help remove suspended gunk from the water...and clean or replace the pads every 2-3 days so the captured junk can't break down.
