Im looking into these lights and was contemplating the 36" 4 bulb 156w t5 setup. It has the external ballast and this is what i have read to be bad.I have seen a few of the posts on here and it seems they are old posts and are about the mh setups. Are these lights still problematic. If this is a bad idea what is comparable wattage and size.Im not sure if i can list the site or link to the bulb.

From what I've heard Odyssea has fixed that issue a few years ago and I've read nothing but good reviews since.

I still using a t5 unit from odyesea and no problems. but the light bulbs aren't great as are the reflectors.. so your better off getting a better unit with better bulbs and reflectors.. either pay more upfront or pay more down the road.. my 2 cents. try reefgeek 4x36" tek fixture with custom bulbs.

The odyssea t5 fixtures are great lights for the money. I own one and I've had zero issues with it. You are correct, the problems that you read about are due to an old design of MH fixture that has been corrected along time ago. It really depends on what you are wanting to keep as far as corals, but you shouldnt need to upgrade unless you go SPS dominant.

+1. I have 2 of them a 36 & a 48 and have had no problems. For a beginner or a person on a budget I think they are hard to beat. I think I have seen one person in the near year I have been into the hobby that have had a problem with them ballast wise. You are correct there is alot of legacy threads of people having problems but I think they have been corrected since.
