    Well all,

I am going to be leaving for Maui on Friday...I can't wait! I am taking my girlfriend there for her graduation present (I was thinking about proposing during the trip, but the funds just aren't there yet to get the kind of ring that I really want to get her)!!!! Either way, it will be a blast...I'm really looking forward to it.

I will take many pictures and will be sure to share a lot of them (especially the underwater pictures...as I'm sure those will be of the most interest to all of you reefers).

If anyone has been to Maui before, feel free to post tips about what to see/do.

I hope everyone has a great week, and I look forward to updating you upon my return!

    -Mike

Well everyone, I am back and had an EXCELLENT time in Maui...it's really a shame that it's over already, but you know how that stuff goes...WAY TOO FAST!

If I can make one suggestion to all of you who go to the island, it would be to buy the book "Maui Revealed" by Andrew Dougherty. The book is great, he reviews almost everything on the island and is a local there, so he has pretty good tips about what to do and what not to do...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by myself and many other travellers to Maui!

Another thing I would recommend is to not bother with the snorkelling out in Molokini (the sunken crater off the coast of the island that companies often charge $40-$80 per person for a snorkel excursion). I was not that impressed. I stuck with the good snorkelling places off of the coast of Maui (Black Rock on Ka'anapali Beach, Honolua Bay near Kapalua, and La Perouse Bay down in Makena) and was not disappointed in the least! All were great spots and all were recommended by Andrew in Maui Revealed (as are many other good spots).

As far as food goes...Mama's Fish House was the nicest and best place I have ever eaten...the fish is caught daily and they even give the name of the fisherman who caught it on the daily printed menu. The surroundings are great, the service is great, and the food is to die for! You do pay for it...at about $50 per person for a lunch plate and $70 per person for dinner. Though it's expensive, I would do it again...I LOVED IT!

The Rd. To Hana was awesome...so many waterfalls and natural swimming pools and colored beaches (black and red) that you definately need a FULL day (about 8-9 hours) to take it all in. A lot of rental car companies tell you not to go all the way around the mountain...but we did in our rental car (as per Andrew's suggestion that it isnt that bad) and found it to actually be manageable...it wasn't that bad at all, and you get a totally different view of the island (while bouncing around in your car on the unpaved mountain road).

Well, back to the grind...kinda stinks to be back, but I hope those of you who are planning on going in the future can take some of this information and make use of it and listen to my number 1 suggestion...Maui Revelaed by Andrew Dougherty!

One last thing...fly Continental...I am a life flyer and LOVE the service...much better than many other airlines that I have experienced!

    Good tips Mike.
I am sorry to hear that Molokini was not that impressive. I went there about 20 years ago and saw some amazing stuff in that reef maze. It was kinda scary when your a little kid turning the corner to be face to face with giant sea bass (or something like that) and big eels.

Glad you had a good time. 8)

Thanks for the great info! I can't wait to get there, almost looking forward to Maui then of the actual wedding day. But I'll be even more happy when all the wedding expenses are over with.

HAHAHA...yeah, Maui is the World's #1 honeymoon spot, and it is very deserving of the title!

My girlfriend and I must have been asked about 3 times each day if we were honey mooning!

I'm sure you will have a GREAT time!

    Where are you staying?
