Well I'm here getting ready for New Year's and putting on some nice clothes and whatnot and my mom asks me to get a plate to put the bread on, but the specific plate is under a few more plates in an almost incredibly hard to reach spot... well sort of lol. So I kneel down to get them and take a few out to get the one she wants and i accidentally bang one against the other and then she like yells at me and threatens to beat me if i break anything. She even says that if i screw up that I'll start off New Year's with a beating; seriously, what the hell? That;s what I don't like about her; my mom always threatens to do something to me if I don't do something right, and she just loves to insult me too, calling me pretty bad names when I screw something up. My dad says its for my own good, but i highly doubt that. Sometimes I just wanna put duct tape on her mouth so she can just stop; I HATE HER DAMN INSULTS! Is that really necessary? I feel crappy when she says stuff like that; I still love her and all but seriously, i feel really bad when she says stuff like that :(

maybe you should contact child protective services(you can get the number online through a google search for your state) if you feel it crosses the line to emotional abuse.

It sounds like abuse too me, to chastise or punish a child is one thing to verbally insult the child is another.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
You should at least speak to a school counselor when school begins again. Sometimes parents can not see the problem, usually because they were treated the same.

well u dont know my family lol my mom probably gets her character from my grandma since back then respect was supposedly really important so if she didnt get it she would punish my mom and her sisters a lot. she even beat my aunt with an umbrella once, and the cops weren't even called. then again that happened in Venezuela which really sucks right now economy-wise and everyone practically does whatever they want

the definition of always needs clarifying IMO

Whilst I understand where Sostoudt is coming from
the simple fact that Saltwater Guy immediately jumped to the defence of his mother
indicates to me, that there is still an awful lot of good things in the relationship

parenting does not come with instruction manuals

give your mum the benefit of the doubt
and for goodness sake, dont break anything - plates cost money and that money could go towards your reef tank
