if your mother is excessively forceful and hits you frequently, or if you have bruises I really encourage you to call this number 1-800-342-3720 (its Child abuse prevention number for your state). Beating a child with hard object like a umbrella is never acceptable.

A spanking is one thing but at no time should you "beat" a child.

Quite honestly, if she's doing this kind of stuff daily, it's abusive. It doesn't matter about "the way she was raised" or "the mindset of her father". This is the modern age, in America, not a century ago in Venezuela. It's not acceptable here and now.

Consider what the world looked like 70 to 100 years ago, when your grandfather was raised. Society has never advanced so much in a 100 year timeframe as it has in the last 100 years. Nearly nothing you use existed for the average person back then (if it existed at all), and until that point, war was acceptable and expected at regular intervals on the world stage. Family structures have undergone massive changes, too.

I'm just giving you the path if you need it.

I do encourage you to remember how this treatment made you feel when you have kids, so you don't repeat the process.

Actually, using that kind of language is abuse. It's called emotional abuse. Just google up that term, and you'll find many places that define emotional abuse in pretty much the same way.

"Abuse is any behavior that is designed to control and subjugate another human being through the use of fear, humiliation, intimidation, guilt, coercion, manipulation etc. Emotional abuse is any kind of abuse that is emotional rather than physical in nature. It can include anything from verbal abuse and constant criticism to more subtle tactics, such as repeated disapproval or even the refusal to ever be pleased."
