    Oh, yeah do you think having glass tops on my tank is a good think or bad thing?

    glass top impedes gas exchange. If you can go without, i would remove them.

    The PH is low, but the ammonia is what killed everything. If you add live rock it will start another cycle in your tank. Doesn't matter how established or how cured it is, it will still happen.

    If it was the store, they wanted your money. If it was any person, they just didn't understand the chemistry and made an uneducated suggestion. Tops are better suited for FW than SW from what I understand, since FW has lower pH. Sell off the tops if you can and go topless. :)

    Topless is the way, and wait till your ammonia is 0ppm before adding anything else, good luck...
