So your saying we should just create more man made disasters to Quote"create more jobs in our already struggling economy." Quote
This is a huge problem for your country and there's simply no way to justify it or hide how detrimental to the country's economy it is/will be.
For anyone to except this as just bad luck and rest with the idea that time will heal all is just nieave .
A pic is worth a million words and this is just the start

No, I am not saying we should create more man made disasters to create more jobs in our already struggling economy, clearly I am saying that there is some good in the awful problem. It is not just a huge problem for "our country" its a problem for the whole world, water is one of the basic needs for the world and everyone will somehow feel the effects of this. No, excepting this issue is being realistic rather then being unrealistic. In the end time does heal all, look at research time is everything and eventually it is completed.

To be realistic, most of the people who are employed because of this disaster were already employed in the shops selling equipment and aren't making any more money since the only people benefiting majorly are the owners of the shops and their suppliers. Many, many people don't have jobs because they can't go fishing or crabbing. This is likely a gigantic net loss in jobs, rather than a gain, as you say.

Research doesn't destroy beaches and oceans for 50 years while it goes on. Sure, we just found a possible cure for ebola, despite knowing about the disease for 30 years and doing research for just as long, but the process of doing research didn't directly kill a single person or ruin a single livelihood.

they ought to get those idiots on the Sea Shepard from whale wars to go do something useful in the gulf instead of chasing around whaling ships. you'd think they'd be all over this already.

Man this is terrible, I've been following it since the beginning and I am at a loss as to how this can occur, a fine no matter how large will not act as a deterent because we as the consumer will end up footing the bill through higher prices. There needs to be a better system of accountability - turff them out for a number of years, anything. Here in Canada we were all set to allow self-regulated drilling as well - it bites, the longer our technological reach gets the higher the risks.

Thank you to all you volunteers down there I really appreciate your efforts.

    I feel a bit better.

Not if the US does what we did over a hundred years ago when a company really messed up. Revoke their corporate charter to operate in the US, and seize all their US-based assets.

Politics wouldn't allow this sort of action in the modern US, but it's what used to be done, and was really effective at sending the message "Don't Mess Up When Everyone Else Bears the Consequences!".
