I live in Missouri. I don't know anyone who travels in the gulf...I only know "river rats" so if I did call the Coast Guard, you are correct. I'm sure they would laugh. However, I'm not that person.

Regardless, when you signed up on 3Reef, there were certain conditions. You've broken numerous of those conditions now so we'll have to part company.

aargh....I just read about how another back up plan they never tried before didnt work as well at 5k feet below the surface as it does on land. They have all the oil they need on land, I am so glad they wanted to take the risk of deep drilling just for the fun and thrill of it. I don't know about the rest of you, but I will be pushing my car before I step into a BP. I am surprised the Feds haven't shut down all the rigs in the Gulf until these people can prove that they have emergency equipment, built and ready to go on shore. When that BP head got on TV to say "Oh it isn't our fault we didn't really oversee what the others were doing, we just wanted the oil. But don't worry, now that something bad has happened we will begin planning a response. We will pay for it all with the oil we pump out of your country.". All the money in the world and they are still Bush League.

Anyone else think that the politicians supporting offshore drilling still should be made to swim in the spill? Rubio, a candidate for governor in Florida still supports drilling 30 miles off the Florida coast. On the Atlantic side, next to the world's 3rd largest reef line. If I were governor I would give a statement to the effect that "The State of Florida is no longer interested in expending time and resources to protect BP property. Have fun."

Thanks for letting me vent 3reef! I feel better now. :)

It makes me sick to my stomach John. I feel so bad for you and the 1000's of people who make their living from the Gulf and Ocean but do thier best to protect it at the same time. I've always wanted to see the Keys and snorkel the water there, more so since I got into this hobby but now I'm afraid I might not get the chance to see the same aquascape you've seen your whole life and that makes me want to cry. I see on CNN that criminal charges will be brought against BP officials now but IMO no fines, jail time or any amount of money can make what one companies greed and wreckless selfishness has done.

I couldn't even impress upon you what that would mean if it hit Florida like it is hitting LA. 24 miles of wetlands? I can't even begin to explain how much life that would be lost. Fish, turtles, birds, dolphins all make the news, but the small inverts are what is going to take the biggest hit. Millions and millions of lives will be lost for no reason at all.

I dont mean to offend, but anybody working in the environmental field or in the oil industry who isnt completely outraged by the lack of planning needs to find another field. If this isn't a "big deal" then what is?

The people in the oil industry aren't outraged. They don't want to get hit with the responsibility of taking care of something like this, and will protect their own in the name of future profits.

I know....when that guy from BP said "it wasnt our fault, but we will fix it"...NONSENSE. You drill oil next to my state you better oversee what is going on out there. Every word out of them should be "sorry". I can't believe how naive I have been all my life...I really thought these people all knew what they were doing and took every pre-caution necessary. When I heard it happened I thought the cap was going to come in the next day and the relief well would be turned on just as soon as they controlled the initial fires. These things are months out? Wow. I wonder how much they saved cutting that corner.
