afaik the EPA keeps close eye on the disaster areas to date. they dont just 'fix' the issue and turn their head. if they are just turning their head then they need to be replaced by someone that will do the proper work and keep up on these things!

3Reef has allowed conversations on Environmental and Conservation issues for a long time. It has done that knowing full well that such conversations can be full of contention. This is a very large environmental issue. For the most part, on this issue, 3Reefers have been great at dealing with opposing points of view. This is a big issue and should be discussed. Thank you for doing it as mature 3Reefers. You can disagree with someone without breaking any User Agreement rules. If you disagree with someone, that's fine, disagree with them respectfully.

Thank You for that. I really appreciate that you guys have been mature here and the mods have let it stay open. This is an issue very close to home for me and I really appreciate all of the opinions.

I've kept pretty relatively quiet throughout the course of this thread. Mainly because most of my opinions are either not appropriate or to political to post. But I have to vent this..
I was bs'ing with a wildlife biologist in my shop today. He's our resident game warden and a regular customer. We were talking about the projected Pheasant population from counts done so far this year. Then the convo turned to this awful disaster and what he said was like a slap in the face. Before it just tore me up and made me very sad for the millions of species already effected along with the 100's of thousands of ppl that are or will be effected. What my friend told me made me realize this has the potential to effect me personally and take away one of my favorite past times. Hunting ducks and geese.
Every year millions of ducks and geese are hatched right here in South Dakota. There isn't a pond, lake, river or slough you pass that doesn't have a few dozen different families of ducks and geese on it within view this time of year here. This fall when the weather begins to get cold they will all begin to bunch up and head south along the Central Flyaway. Right down to the marshlands of the Louisianna Gulf Coast. A bird doesn't know that landing in an oil slick will harm it, it can't even distinguish the difference between normal water and that with oil floating on top.
I know that at present there are millions of acres of marsh that haven't been contaminated and may never become that way but I can't help and wonder in a situation that should never have happened in the first place and failed attempt after failed attempt to stop the leak, how long before the marshes are spoiled.

thats the Mississippi flyway over there. we are in the central flyway. I dont think that the birds are going to have that kind of trouble.. besides we dont nearly have the numbers of birds that we used to have on the coast anymore.
the lack of agriculture has kept alot of birds from making it to the coast. Now the scaup sit out a few miles in the gulf all up and down the LA coast. That could be an issue. alot of other birds just dont sit in salt water that much. I dont believe its going to be that big of an issue except for the scaup.
