so I made a sump, 10 gallon for my 20 gal tank. The problem is how to keep the heat lower than 84 degrees. its not completely plumbed into the tank just yet, I just have the pump (mag 5) running within in the sump. no heater. just a pump. So any thoughts?

What is the ambient temp? could you run the pump external?

I run a 20 gallon with a 10 gallon sump... I don't have a lid on most of the sump - this helps.. I also take the lid off of my tank during the day a lot as I have a halide pendant.

If the latter isn't an option, you can put computer type fans above your sump. Many have said this results in a few degree drop in temp.

Now that you have a sump you should think about an auto top off device so you don't worry about the extra evap caused by fans, etc.

well I though I had it all figured out, till the plexi-glass walls came unglued and ruined my whole sump plan. back to the silicone board I go....

How did you glue it? I'm not sure, but weldon is the recommended glue for acrylic and I'm sure Plexiglass too. It actually welds the to pieces together. Should come apart.
