I purchased a 125 gal tank, with sand, rocks the whole 9 yards!! but....everything in the tank was dead, he stated he hadnt had fish in there in about 6 months, I picked the tank up and kept about 20 gals of his water, now.. I have put my water in along with my corallife PS, I have put several cups of seasalt in there but the salinty is still at 0, what am I doing wrong? what steps should I take or shoud have taken?:-/

with a 125 youll need plenty more salt to get anything to change in the salinity

What type of salt did you use? Unfortuanely, some stores sell aquatium salt as reef salt. How old is the hydrometer? How many cups did you add exactly? if you kept 20 gallons of his water that would leave 105 gallons left that you would need to add salt to. 1 cup = 2 gallons of salt water at a salinity of about 1.022. Your tank probably only has about 100 gallons of actual water capacity. This means that you would need to add 40 cups of salt to get the salinity at 1.022.

If your hydrometer is old, buy some viniger from walmart and fill the hydrometer with it. Let it sit for 24 hours and rinse out. Retest water.

The bag should state how much salt to add. What brand of salt are you using?

yea with my 125 i bought a 160 gallon bucket poured the two bags in the water with nothing rocks or sand in it and then started goin by cups but since you already have sand the salt could get stuck at the bottom so youll have to rake the sand a lot before you get all the salt mixed
