to let heat out but now im worried bout something jumping out of my tank
or my cat jumping in any suggestions

At lowes or home depot in the lighting or acoustic ceiling tile department(?) they carry plastic white grate stuff. It comes in like ceiling tiles, except it has holes in it. Like 1" holes and they are square. ANYONE know the name of what I'm talking about????????

I took my covers off about 3 weeks ago and no suisides yet!! My cats ignore the fish, heck my dogs will sit and watch them longer than the cat!

 

Yea the 1" holes are for like vents? I think!

things can still get out thru the egg crate. You need to get some plexiglass and make like a 8-10" wall angle it as much as you can. So it creates an extra hieght to the tank so they cant jump out and or possibly get stuck on top of anything.

 

since I took my covers off the temps have gone down, with the help of a fan too. I've even gotten wet on my back from my Foxface. He comes to the top and spits water at me LOL

if i go egg crate does that alter the lighting at all?

 

yes it does lower the intensity of it. How much all depends on your lights.
