Ok I have been going to my lfs trying to rack there brains and reading the conscientious marine aquarist like the bible and I think I have a tank set up that might work for soft coral and maybe an annimoe. Here goes and if anything looks wrong with the equipment as troublesome, over kill, ect, or the prices look a little high please let me know as I how im a kook at this and would like help. Thank you.

    60 gal glass tank dementions 48 1/2, 13 1/2, 21 1/2 and stand for $181.
Remora hang on the back protein skimmer $195, remora pro $270.
    heater 300 watts $30.
nova extreme t5 aquariu, lighting fixture, 4x54 watt, 48 inch with moon lights $300.
Eheim Pro II for $270 I think.

Total with the normal remora + tax= $1,054.08
    Total with the pro + tax= 1,135.08

    So what ya think?

Ya I can't spell I blame it on hawaii education. What power heads do you recommend and how many do you think I need for a 60 gal.

koralias are popular there nice not to expensive they are good for diffused flow all around the tank, then i would recommend you get one maxijet with a sureflow upgrade(use small impeller) this would make a nice powerful current stream that faster fish like to get in and swim like tangs

Actually the remora comes with a maxijet so that is nice. What kind of koralias do you think I should get? There are a bunch of numbers that go along with them, do you think three would be good and not over kill.

three would be fine, id get two or three of those eventually , if the maxijet is needed to run the skimmer you cant use it for flow in the tank. one like this Maxi-Jet 1200 Powerhead / MP 1200 + Algae Free Sure Flow 1600 Maxi-Jet Upgrade Kit, w/ Upgrade Kit > w/ Upgrade Kit

you wanna shoot for around 50x turn over rate so 3000gph is the number for a 60 gallon tank so all your powerheads and returns should add up to this number

edit so two koralia 3's =1600 gph and one maxijet sureflow modded(small impeller)=1600 gph this puts you at 3200 which is good

Remember the base rock you need to put in. If you are going to do a FOWLR, you are looking at 1lb/gallon at about $3 to $4 per pound. If you are going for reef, you are looking at 1.5 to 2lbs/gallon. Something to consider. Also, IMO, the Enheim is optional. I don't run anything but LR, LS and a skimmer. It can't hurt though, as long as you don't let it turn into a nitrate factory.

The canister is what exactly? The chemical, biological, or mechanical filter? Cause I really don't see the point of a biological filter with the rock.

Would I be alright with just the skimmer, rock, heater, maxijet 1200 and two koralia 3's, aragonite sand, and in time a hang of the back refugium?

Edit: Will it still have the necessary oxygenation with-out a canister if I run a protein, LR, and the appropriate water flow?

The Nova Extreme 4x54 does NOT come with moon lights anymore. They changed this a few weeks ago. I found out when mine came in without. Unless you are buying used, they don't come with it anymore.

However, that same light is only 200 bucks at Pet Mountain.

As a further FYI, I sent mine back because I wanted the moons integrated and got the SunDial 4x54. This one is 280 with shipping at Pet Mountain and as a super bonus, also has built in timers. They came in a week ago and I love them. Also, Pet Mountain customer service has been outstanding.

Get the Remora Pro, you won't regret the upgrade (and with it probably won't need the Eheim!

A HOB refugium is a good idea, I have an Aquafuge by CPR...definitely worth it in improved water quality.
