Me too! I'm excited that I will just be able to break up the rock, drill it, etc. and attach it to a PVC frame to get exactly the layout I want.

Yup! As simple as that! The best would be high-pressure pot - reinforced pot with hermetic lid. However, simple boiling with lid on could do the trick. You would have to do it in small portions. 8)

Yeah, I'm starting to see some logic in some things that I wondered about before.

One question, related to starting over... how much sand would be too much if decide NOT to go DSB. If I do decide to not go DSB (in the DT), would 2" be too much?

    Thanks!

I bleached my sand. I stirred it with a rake for days while soaked in the baking soda. Just make sure you stir it a lot so the baking soda can get to every grain. It's not that easy if you have a lot. I had mine in two 30 gallon storage bins. Try to get a container flat as possibly cuz if it's deep the sand is very heavy to stir.

If you go though all that work to clean the sand you mine as well just replace it with dry sand. That way, you know nothing is in there and won't have to worry about introducing bleach or other chemicals back into the aquarium.

Yeah, I'm going to replace it. I'm too lazy to clean it and I'd rather be sure it's clean. Besides, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to do a DSB in the display this time (just the fuge), so I won't need near as much.

Guess I have more sand to put in the boys' sandbox. :)
