the cycle goes on for a yr or so.it just gets smaller and smaller cycles as time goes by till the cycles are so small they go unnoticed.don't worry about one small dead fish in your tank.it'll be gone in a day.the reason for a dead fish in a new tank is always water quality.its not ready for fish or at least not ready for that many fish.all fish carry disease.they just need the right conditions for it to take off.such as a small new tank with to many fish.a new cycle can always be triggered to but a small fish won't do much.

Hope you gain that valuable trait and you have no more losses. I always tell people that this is not a piece of furniture you put in your house, it is a eco system that takes time to grow.

    Go Slow!

    Learn to Live With It

    Adam Blundell M.S.

"...As surprising as it may seem your tank will look ugly at first. This happens to all new marine aquariums as they cycle through their initial filtration phase. Your tank may go brown, and then green, and then red, and then just look junky. It happens. Consequently the one coral you really want to keep may not live. You may struggle to raise the prize fish you originally intended to acquire. It's okay; just learn to love whatever is working for you. Remember, not only is this a hobby, but we are keeping living ecosystems. Special efforts should be put forth to enjoy and appreciate what we are keeping, whatever it may be. It takes time and patience to turn a glass box full of rock into a beautiful, thriving reef tank..."

I got the same info when I bought my nano cube. It is a 29 gallon BioCube I bought about 40 pounds of live rock. He said with all that live rock I would be fine to add fish within a week. Ummmm lets just say it did not work :( After my two first fish died... I waited until I went through the brown algae, and my inverts had in control then I added hardy fish and now about 5 months later I am adding corals and fish that are a little more tempremental. Waiting is worth it you will save yourself a lot of money if you just wait.

Just a quick update. Did lose 2 clowns but they were from a different shop to all the other stock.. Have not lost anything else. Tank looks fantastic and now at 5 weeks no nitrite ammonia. Most brown algae now gone. I have never had a spike of any type in water params and corals are starting to spread. If I had listened to all of the conflicting advice not only from this site but from books shops ect, I would be a very confused young man!!!!!
