I know I may get blasted, but I need to ask.

So what is the difference between a Salt water filtration system and a freshwater one ?

I am running dual Aqua clear 110 on my 90 gallon Cichlid tank thathas a high bio load with many large fish and my water is perfect. How can this filter work soo good for my crowded Cichlid tank and not be adequate for my SW tank ? Whats the difference ?

When I discuss this filter for my SW tank half the size, many say no go. If a sump is better for SW I can live with that, I just want to under stand why.
Are we saying that a sump on the FW tank would do even better than what I have ?

    There, I feel better now.

Sumps where at first a bleed over from some F/W systems . I used a sump and a wet dry for my discus tanks.. But in the 80's it was a requirement for a skimmer when the Berlin bare bottoms where the latest greatest thing . You had to have a hell of a skimmer and the sump was the perfect place as no HOB skimmer will do that job. Also a nice place for junk like heaters and a little more water volume for the system.. And the water mass would be my last reason to add a sump.. whats 10 gallons or so . unless you like to micro manage every little detail of the thing .

In the Late 60's Dr Herbert Axlerod and his partner Spotte using old info from Eng Ing ? what ever the hell his name was on a Natural system that required nothing but an air stone to operate .. Worked O.K for a while then it went away because of the bio limitations But it came back as a DSB with a few slight changes ..
