I also took it the wrong way bc219 and bmshehan, and I apoloigize.
I agree it's hard sometimes to understand what a person is trying to say and allot of times things are taken the wrong way.

I feel that the more digging you do the more you learn. Even if you search for something like "white bugs in saltwater aquarium" and you don't find exactly what you want, you still learn a lot of other things in the meantime. If you just go and ask without trying to figure it out you aren't going to learn as much. I am NOT by anymeans saying people should not ask newbie questions here, since that's what the forum is for, I'm just saying that you will learn more by searching digging then you will by just asking. And just for the refrence in case I get flamed by this, I do answer the questions when I can, as newbie-ish as they may be, and still make my google suggestions.

It's kind of teaching a man to fish instead of handing him a fish to eat.

Okay I posted this before I saw mission's post. I was planning on getting out the cam and trying to get some pics of my zoas for that post... :)

Sometimes people prefer you TELLING them than giving a link.... Sometimes people do not feel like reading articles or weeding through old threads. I personally LOVE articles as something published(in paper or online) is more legit than someone on his computer at 11:30 talking rubbish.... Dr Shimek knows his inverts and if you ever need to ID an invert he is the place to start!

As far as the tang police go... I applied but was too busy with other commitments!!
I feel awful having tangs in a 180 let alone a 55, BUT I will not scold someone for it... or will I?! ;-)

    Happy reefing, and apologizing!

I think Its a luxury to be able to ask, and anyone should ask about anything they have questions about. Also, what fun is it to be on google when you could be on 3reef. JMO of course ;D.

I'd post, but my zoas would hang their heads in shame next to yours ;D

I have to disagree with you on that. In my experience i have learned more by asking questions and talking to people rather than dealing with the search engines.

I know you can play with words and get the right results online, and i've been using search engines ever since they've been available, but i still prefer communicating with people instead of machines.

I fix computers for a living so im no stranger to technology.

The reason i wanted to say something in the first place is; it seems to me that if someone is smart enough to find 3reef, join 3reef and start a thread, i think it would be reasonable to assume that they know how to use google to search for whatever it is that they are looking for.

I guess it is also possible that an active 3reef member does not know how to search for information using google. I just assume that they do know how to look up info. but prefer to communicate with 3reef members instead.

Therefore i came to the conclusion; since these questions will continue, its better just to answer them.

Just like Jesus handed out fish to people who were starving, we sometimes have to hand out information to people who are thirsty for knowledge.

Wow some misunderstanding, but I must say this is quite mild compared to other places. People on there purposely try to start stuff. Me I like to exhaust my resources before asking, but sometimes it's nice to get responses from living people within minutes of starting a thread. There is also a lot of excitement in this hobby, like when you see your first pod! Happy New Year everyone!

well, I have yet to get the hang of some of my test kits, for example I don't think I'm doing the KH test properly. But CA is at 460, pH is btwn 8.3 and 8.4. I have read there is a relationship btwn CA, pH, and alkalinity, and I inadvertently ruined my alkalinity pippette. so today I will stop by the LSF for some lessons on the KH kit and have them look at a sample.
