The guy I got it from had a great idea I am going to try...lay garbage bag on top of it, then slowly pour/drain the tank's water in. Makes total sense, said it worked great for him, very little snowstorm. Guessit will only work if the tank isn't filled yet though.

I can't believe that works.....How do you keep the garbage bag from floating up once the water is in. And on top of that if you are wrestling a garbage bag you are bound to do alot of sand stirring.

good luck though let us know

Well I'm finally filling now after completing plumbing out the tank and W/D, but am using RO that I'm idscharging straight into the tank. I have a 110 gal day unit. Since it's going to take 2 days to fill the RO is not disturbing the sand and is reasonably clear. Of course, I wanted to flatten a depression out and it clouded up a little again.

I still can't get over how silty this is. I've never seen anything like this. Unless you have really nasty well water I'd advocate tossing 5-10 pounds at a time on a fine mesh screen and hosing it off till it runs clear. This tank is in my office and it's down to single digits in Chicago so this wasn't an option for me at this time.

My RO/DI finally made enough water so I could rig an old Fluval 404. (It's been running non-stop since Sunday at 6PM.) I crossed my fingers, packed the chambers with filter padding and let it run overnight. I'm down to just a light haze. It's cleaning up nicely.

Whew! This stuff had me worried.
